Thomas Rhett admits his latest single “Life Changes” was a “tough one to write,” mainly because it’s so personal.
In it he sings about some pivotal moments in his life, like college, where he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do, and getting married at 22, which a lot of people tried to talk him out of. He notes, “it was just in my gut, it was like this needs to happen now. And it did and it completely altered my life forever.”
He also sings about starting a family with wife Lauren, and their decision to adopt after it first looked as though they wouldn’t be able to get pregnant. “It’s just so many crazy things that we kind of just followed our gut and tried to do, I guess what was the right thing in that moment,” he shares, “and it led us to where we are now.”
He adds that the tune is “definitely one of my favorite songs to write and definitely, probably the most personal song that I have allowed people to listen to.”
