Thomas Rhett says his six-year-old daughter has been asking a lot of questions about her adoption. The singer discusses the topic on the latest episode of the “Making Space With Hoda Kotb” podcast.
“I think when you become a parent, you’re like, ‘Well, I’m a dad, I have all the answers.’ Or, ‘I’m a mom, I have all the answers,'” he tells Hoda. ”And adoption is one of the most beautiful things in the world, and I don’t think at the beginning of it you go, ‘Oh, in six years I’m gonna have to start answering some really intense questions.'”
Thomas says he often wonders what the right age will be to talk about it with her.
“Because the world is moving so fast that it’s like, to have a conversation with a 6-year-old like that, maybe I’m too old school to think that way, but I’m like, ‘Maybe we need to wait ’til she’s 10,'” he said, adding, “She asks questions all the time.”
- ONE MORE THING! Thomas also stopped by Today where he performed "Crash and Burn," "What's Your Country Song," "Slow Down Summer" and more. He also talked about getting married to wife Lauren when he was only 22. “I think there were people that were supportive, but there was a lot of people that were like, ‘Why don’t you just kind of date, and wait?’” he shares. “And I was like, when you know, you know.”
