Scrabble Users Quit Game After Offensive Word Ban: Fans of Scrabble take their game very seriously, and it appears many are not happy. It seems many players have quit the game after the game’s official online word list removed over 400 “offensive” terms, including racial slurs, and sexuality and gender insults. The company’s global head of games, Ray Adler, says they are always looking for “opportunities to be more culturally relevant,” adding, “I’ve heard the argument that these are just words, but we believe they have meaning.” But many are not in favor of the ban. “Words in dictionaries and Scrabble lists are not slurs,” author Darryl Francis insist. “They only become slurs if used with a derogatory purpose or intent or used with a particular tone and context.”
