Dixie Chicks fans have been waiting a long time for a new album and the wait may soon be over. During an interview with the “Spiritualgasm” podcast, Natalie Maines revealed some details about the band’s upcoming fifth album, which she says is tentatively titled “Gaslighter,” noting that a lot of it was inspired by her divorce from husband Adrian Pasdar.

“I had a lot to say,” she said. “Songwriting is really hard for me, and I think for many years, I didn’t want to analyze my life or my relationship. I was just in it and dedicated and devoted, and if I had started writing songs about it.” She adds, “I don’t want to say I was in a ‘survival mode,’ but I was just not ready to open up like that.”

The album will be the trio’s final record on their Sony contract, and they originally planned for it to be a covers album, but Natalie notes, “then my relationship fell apart, and I had a lot to say.”

It will be Dixie Chicks’ first release since 2006’s “Taking the Long Way,” with Natalie sharing, “Our last album was the most personal and autobiographical we’ve ever been and then this one is 10 times that.”

So far there’s no word on when “Gaslighter” will be released, although Natalie did hint at a 2020 tour, suggesting they may play arenas.
