As we told you, a lot of folks will be hitting the road this weekend for the July 4th holiday and it sounds like they need to be careful. That’s because according to a new poll, a lot of people behind the wheel are doing anything but keeping their eyes on the road.

A new Hancock Tires survey finds:

  • 64% of Americans admit to multi-tasking while driving.
  • That results in a lot of distracted driving.
  • Some of the top sources of distraction include:
    • Singing at the top of their lungs (24%)
    • Eating while driving (21%)
    • Texting while driving (11%)
    • Applying makeup or even shaving (3%)

And it sounds like a lot of drivers could use a reminder about proper driving behaviors.

  • 10% of drivers say they failed their first driving test.
  • And even though they have passed, 13% say they still have trouble parallel parking.
  • Also an issue? 14% say they brake too hard and turn too fast.

Thought Starters…

  • I do not believe only 11% text and drive…
  • Admit it, do you multi-task while you’re driving? What are your worst distracted driving offenses?
  • Do you think you’d pass your driver’s test if you had to retake it today? If not, what would cause you to fail?
