Do you enjoy a little gossip from time to time? Most of us like hearing the latest drama occasionally, but keeping tabs on others can have a downside. If you catch yourself spending too much time thinking about other people’s lives, think about Annie Mae Belin, who just celebrated her 102nd birthday this month. The South Carolina centenarian figured out a long time ago that minding your own business pays off in the long run.
Annie Mae was asked about her secret to living a long life and her response? “Trying to tend to my business. And leave other people’s business alone.” And she’s got a point, because if you’re spending all your time focused on what other people are doing or saying, you have a lot less time to focus on your own needs. That’s not to say this birthday gal isn’t social, she says, “I love to talk and I love people,” but she doesn’t let their every little issue consume her.
Besides minding her own business, Annie Mae credits her faith in God for helping her live so long and science backs her up there. Dr. John Day, author of “The Longevity Plan” says, “Study after study suggests that having a faith may increase longevity.” Another thing that keeps her going strong after all these years? Having her hair done every two weeks. This lady clearly understands the value of self-care and she seems to be an excellent example of how to live your best life.
