Jess Carson of Midland is sharing what the best Christmas present he got growing up was -- his dad coming home!
Jess grew up on a Christmas tree farm, so Christmas was a very busy time of year for his family and especially his father. He remembers, "I would say the best Christmas present that I got was my dad coming home after finishing Christmas tree harvest, and sort of having that time to recover from it. And then he got to be home, like through the actual holiday. He was always gone on Thanksgiving because he was in the middle of Christmas tree harvest during then. But whenever he finished, it was a big relief around our house.”
You may think that would mean he had a spectacular tree growing up, but just the opposite. “No. It was always like the last thing that he did in Christmas tree harvest. And he’d just grab a tree that was already bailed from the shipping yard. He wouldn’t have even seen the tree unbailed. It was just like, he never scrutinized the tree. Just couldn’t be bothered.”
