Matt Stell has a hit with his latest single “'Boyfriend Season,” and he’s setting the record straight regarding speculation that he wrote it about his ex-girlfriend, former “The Bachelor” star Victoria Fuller

The song tells the story of a girl breaking up with a guy, and the aftermath of the decision, but says not only is it not about Victoria, he was still with her when he wrote it and she came up with the title.

Matt tells “People” he initially called the song “Whatever Helps You Sleep at Night,” but she suggested “Boyfriend Season,” and Matt and his fellow co-writers decided to go with it. He jokes, “she had a point — no one was sleeping!”

As for their relationship, Matt says he’s never been “super public” about who he’s dating, but insists, "I had finished the song up while we were still together,” noting, “It's not about her, but it's not crazy that people would wonder if that was the intent," adding, "It truly wasn't."
