Little Big Town, who are set to host the CMT Awards Wednesday, recently stopped by “Today” to talk about their latest single, “Daughters,” which Karen Fairchild says “kinda fell out of the sky.”
She says the song came out of a conversation about why we still need the same “tired conversations about equality,” adding, “we still have a ways to go.” Kimberly Schlampan, who has two daughters, says the song is really about supporting young girls, hoping the song will “instill in them the love and the confidence they need to do just whatever they want to in life.”
The band is current working on their ninth album and Phillip Sweet says “Daughters” is a song that “raised the bar” for the rest of the songs on the album. He notes, “I really feel like we’ve been writing the best songs of our career.”
