Joe Diffie Dies After Coronavirus Diagnosis

Nineties country star Joe Diffie , best known for such songs as “Pickup Man” and “John Deere Green,” passed away Sunday. It came two days after announcing he had been diagnosed with the coronavirus. He was 61.
“I am under the care of medical professionals and currently receiving treatment,” Diffie in a statement on Friday. “My family and I are asking for privacy at this time. We want to remind the public and all my fans to be vigilant, cautious and careful during this pandemic.”
Joe was known for a string of hits in the 90s, including five number ones, “Home,” “If the Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets),” “Third Rock from the Sun,” “Pickup Man” and “Bigger Than the Beatles.” In total the Oklahoma native had 18 Top Ten singles, and was even name checked in Jason Aldean’s 2013 single “1994.”
Diffie has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1993.
