Taylor Swift's music often plays like a musical treasure hunt, sending fans on a quest to figure out who and what she's singing about in each song. With her recent release of "Speak Out (Taylor's Version)," speculation has once again turned to one of the songs on the album - a song originally released in 2010.

The song is "Sparks Fly," and fans have long felt that it's about country singer Jake Owen - but what does Jake say?

"It’s a great song and the speculation has always been funny to me," admits Owen, adding, "I’m sure Taylor probably laughs at it all too, but I’m happy to even have my name in the discussion around it." But could it be about Owen? Fans have been scouring liner notes and social media, and they point to several clues.

  • First, there's a theory that the song is about a celebrity crush for Jake, whom the singer opened up for in Portland when she was just 16. The phrase "PORTLAND OREGON" is spelled out in code in the original liner notes for this tune.
  • Also, Swift made a MySpace post (remember MySpace?) in which she recalled an "amazing" night playing in a Portland bar called Duke’s when she opened Owen's show.
  • And one lyric in the song says, "Get me with those green eyes, baby
As the lights go down" - and guess what color Jake's eyes are?

As with most of Swift's songs, she's not saying - but no matter who the song's about, there's nothing but desire for this person in the song, so they come across in a much better light than some of the subjects of her other lyrics - just ask John Mayer.
