Luke Bryan realizes he’s often considered the face of “Bro Country” music, and admits all the imitators that followed him may has pushed things a bit too far.

“When I started singing about stuff like that, a lot of people saw that it worked, so they incorporated it,” Luke tells “Billboard.” “Then sometimes things get beat to death, and then it’s time to move on.”

He adds, “I know that there are more layers to describing the country way of life than a pickup truck and fishing. When I’m in a songwriting session with one of my songwriter buddies who’s going down the back-road path, can I sing a song about hunting and fishing ever again?." He continues, “I have enough intelligence to know I have to move the needle from singing about trucks and back roads and fishing.”

Of course, Luke isn’t completely ruling out those type of songs. He notes, “once you say that, if the right kind of song comes along that you know fans will go apesh*t over, I have to search myself and ask, ‘Is it OK to do this again?’”

  • Regardless, Luke knows he can’t please everyone. When talking about his 2011 hit “Country Girl (Shake it For Me),” he shares, “When I put that song out, I knew what it was. It was lighthearted fun. If you can’t appreciate the fun of that song, then I’m not your artist. Pick. Another. Artist.”
