Dolly Parton is showing her thanks to the volunteer fire departments that helped battle the fires that destroyed homes in Sevier Country, Tennessee a little over two years ago. Through her My People Fund she donated $20,000 to eight volunteer fire departments in the area.

"It is only fitting that the last of the My People Fund will go to those who were the first to respond to the fires," Dolly said in a statement.

The fund also donated another $40,000 to the volunteer firefighters’ training center, which will go towards a new classroom.

  • The fire in November, 2016 killed 14 people and damaged or destroyed over 2,500 homes. Dolly responded by creating the fund, which raised more than $9 million, and handed out checks to 855 families who lost their homes.
