Granger Smith stunned country music fans with the announcement yesterday that he is leaving his country music career behind. Jumping on Instagram, Smith laid it on the line in an emotional and sincere video - he can no longer reconcile his country career with what he feels God is calling him to do.
"I have felt a strong desire to pursue ministry," the singer/comedian said in the clip. "This doesn't mean I'm going to start a church or a crusade or a revival; this means me and my family are going to serve our local church...gonna pour into that church as members." He also informed fans he has been attending seminary, which is taking up much of his time.
Smith used the occasion to talk about his upcoming (now "Farewell") tour and book he has coming out August 1, "Like A River," concerning the loss of his son and the aftermath, much of what has led him to his new calling.
No word in the video as to what happens to his comedy career as "Earl Dibbles Jr.," but he did say he would do his best to stay engaged with fans and answer any questions they may have.
