Imagine the man you love getting down on one knee and getting ready to ask you to marry him, only for him to break out laughing and reveal he was kidding. It sounds like a cruel prank, but fake marriage proposals are all over TikTok. And while some women laugh along, not all of them see the humor in pretending to pop the question.

Fiona Simpson recently shared a viral TikTok showing her boyfriend’s faux-posal on a beach, revealing that his “beige flag” is that he does it to her anytime they’re in a romantic moment. She adds that now she won’t think it’s genuine if he ever does it for real. But he’s not the only guy pulling these fake proposal pranks and sharing them on social media.

“Love Island” contestant Will Young, who’s known as “Farmer Will” online, has called himself out for doing it. In a video, he shares that he fake proposes to his girlfriend “whenever we get a random person to take our picture.” TikToker Darren Clegg also pulls this stunt on his girlfriend and posted a video of him dropping to one knee while she shakes her head and laughs. And he points out that he does it so much, she won’t believe him if he ever actually asks her to marry him.

Talk Back:

  • These women are taking this a lot better than I would!
  • Do you think these fake proposals are more of a red flag? Or just a guy kidding around?
  • How would you react if your boyfriend did this to you? And then posted a video of it on TikTok?
