Eli Young Band’s Mike Eli doesn’t always know whether it’s a good thing for him to listen to other country songs on the radio. It’s not that he doesn’t like other artists, it’s just sometimes he worries about being too influenced by what he hears.
“I think sometimes we go back and forth on wanting to be either influenced by what mainstream is doing or trying to find new inspiration, I think, in older music or say, music that a different generation is listening to,” he shares.
Mike admits that songwriters are “constantly absorbing what’s happening,” and that can be both good and bad. “I think that sometimes we get tired and we just want to turn music off, generally,” he says, “I think sometimes you have to, to stay inspired.”
