Diamond Rio - one of the biggest country acts of the 90's - have been around for over thirty years, and they're letting country fans know they haven't hung up their musical instruments just yet. While it has been eight years since their last album (2015's "I Made It") and thirteen years since their last single release (2010's "This Is My Life"), the band has continued to be a big draw on the touring circuit - and despite the loss of two longtime members, have announced they're back and better than ever with a new single.
After 33 years together, group members Brian Prout and Gene Johnson retired and new members Carson McKee (fiddle/harmony vocals) and Micah Schweinsberg (drums) have stepped in. One major change: Carson McKee is the band's first female member.
"Carson is an amazing young musician and we are so lucky to have her,” singer Marty Roe says. “She can sing as high as Gene, which was hard to find, and her vocals blend so well with mine and Dana’s (Williams). She also brings an energy to the stage that keeps us old guys on our toes." As for Schweinsberg, he's been drumming on and off with the band for years, so the move to full-time member once the drum kit opened up was a natural progression.
Now, in 2023, the band has a new lineup - and for the first time in a long time, new music. Dropped yesterday, the first single from the newly revamped Diamond Rio, titled "The Kick" - an instrumental jam that shows off the skills the new band members bring to the table. Check it out to the right.
