Blake Shelton helped get Crag Morgan’s emotional tribute to his late song Jerry, “The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost,” to number one in iTunes, but Craig tells “Rolling Stone” he originally didn’t plan on releasing the tune at all.

He had initially only planned to share the song with family, but after playing it for his band they convinced him to perform it live. Then, after a particularly emotional performance at the Grand Ole Opry he didn’t think he could ever sing it again, but a fellow country star changed his mind.

“Ricky Skaggs was standing there and he put his hands on my shoulders and looked me dead in my eyes and said, ‘You have to sing that song,” he says. “The world needs to hear it..”

Not long after Craig texted the song to Blake, who then started his social media campaign to get the song to number one, and now that more people have heard it,  it’s definitely touched a lot of folks. “I see the messages from all the families, and people who have lost children, who talk about how this song has reignited their faith and their love for humanity,” he says. “That’s a powerful thing.”
