Zach Top, Hannah Dasher & Ernest Cover Keith Whitley Live: We're seeing more and more that the new crop of country talent have a healthy respect for the legends of the past. Three rising stars of the new generation - ERNEST, Zach Top and Hanna Dasher - came together on stage at the Two Step Inn festival in Georgetown, Texas this past weekend to tribute 80s country legend Keith Whitley. The three performed a near-perfect version of Whitley's classic "I Never Go Around Mirrors," which you can see here.
Reba Returning As Host Of ACMs: It's almost not news any more, as many times as she's done it, but the ACMs announced yesterday that Reba McEntire would be coming back to host the upcoming ACM Awards. This will be the 17th time hosting for the country legend, which is a record. Once the announcement was made, Reba said, "I am tickled to pieces to get to host the ACM Awards for the 17th time! What an honor to have been part of the past, present and now the future of the Academy of Country Music with Amazon Prime Video. I can’t wait to get to Texas and see everybody May 16th!" As Reba said, the 59th Academy of Country Music Awards happens Thursday, May 16 at 8 pm EDT/5 pm PDT, streaming live on Prime Video from Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
Jelly Roll Spotlights Madeline Merlo To Make Things Right: Wednesday night at a pre-NFL Draft performance in Detroit, Jelly Roll stopped down during his set to introduce a performer to the crowd - and to right a wrong. Jelly brought out Madeline Merlo (who country fans know as the female voice on Cole Swindell's "She Had Me At 'Heads Carolina'") and made sure fans know that she was also an integral part of his song "Kill A Man," saying she went uncredited on his album because “I didn’t know if she’d want to be associated with my white trash a**.” Jelly pronounced himself "such a fan of hers and her voice. I love everything about you, Miss Madeline Merlo." The two then performed "Kill A Man" together.
University Of Oklahoma To Give Toby Keith Honorary Degree: Toby Keith continues to receive honors from the University of Oklahoma. Last weekend, he had his name painted on the 25-yard lines of the Sooner's playing field; now the late country legend is receiving another honor. As posted by Toby's official X account, a representative for Keith wrote, "Toby will be awarded an honorary degree at @uofoklahoma’s Commencement ceremony next month. Toby was an avid OU sports fan and longtime donor." See the X announcement to the right.
Do We Have Another Glimpse Of Post Malone's Country Project?: At this point, all that's left to be revealed by Post Malone is his finished country project. Yesterday both Post and Morgan Wallen posted a clip on their socials featuring Posty bobbing his head to new music, with the caption on the post saying "they say teamwork makes the dream work." No other context, but it's safe to assume Wallen joins Post on the track.
