Brett Young Knows Why “Mercy” Was So Popular

Brett Young’s last single “Mercy” was his fourth number one and it was definitely a huge hit, having been certified triple platinum.
As for why it was so successful, Brett thinks it’s because it’s a tune that everyone can relate to, since most people have had a breakup where one person just wasn’t expecting it. He notes, “I think everybody’s been through that. I’ve been through that a number of times.”
While the song is a personal one for Brett, he insists it isn’t about one specific relationship. He shares, “I’ve been through that. I’m always on the over-emotional side of a relationship,” adding, “I think anybody that’s gone through a breakup when they were on the bad end of it can relate to it.”
