Brantley Gilbert's New Single Has A Very Personal Connection

It’s no secret that Brantley Gilbert approaches his music from a deeply personal place – and his latest single, “What Happens in a Small Town,” it was no different. As a co-writer on the track, he definitely relied on personal experience…and in this case? It recalls the days that he and his now-wife, Amber, had broken up.

“It’s definitely an Amber thing,” he explains. “I feel like as a songwriter we all have to go to a place in our own heart, really to write a song like this. And for me it’s always her.”

When it comes to this song, Brantley says that much the desire he has to make great music…the sting of a breakup leaves its mark. “I spent so much time on the road,” he offers. “It followed me everywhere I went. But I think most of us have that breakup that’s a pain in the ass … not my wife, the breakup part.”
