Brad Paisley headlined a free Fourth of July concert in Nashville this weekend, where he was joined by guests Kelsea Ballerini, who sang “Hole in the Bottle,” and Joe Bonamassa. Ahead of the show, Brad sat down with “Today” to talk about the show, and his return to touring.

"I think when you take something away for a year and a half, you could basically go down there, they could do a local community theater production of 'Yankee Doodle Dandy' and they'd have 300,000 people there," Brad joked about his July 4th concert. "This is so amazing, to have the miracle of somehow getting the virus under control in this country. We're able to kinda get back together.”

Brad also talked about his latest single “City of Music,” which is a tribute to Nashville. "The nightlife that's happening right through that wall, and the crazy, amazing mecca that [Nashville] is, this destination for pilgrims," he says, "I really wanted to celebrate it, and I wanted it to musically feel the way that feels."

  • Brad also discussed being stuck at home during quarantine with his wife Kimberly Williams Paisley and their two sons, which he says was “great.” He notes, “I've never spent a summer largely home with my kids, and what a great time in their lives to do that, at 11 and 13, to be able to go and spend that time.” He says spending so much time with his wife made him realize “I actually like her,” but joked, “I don't know if she's still sure yet, but it doesn't matter."
