Artists Pay Tribute To John Prine In Song

Artists continue share their thoughts about the passing of John Prine, including his good friend Bonnie Raitt, who recorded his classic song “Angel From Montgomery.”

“Words can’t even come close. I’m crushed by the loss of my dear friend John,” she shares. “For all of us whose hearts are breaking, we will keep singing his songs and holding him near.”

Other artists decided to pay tribute to John in song, and did so beautifully. 

  • Brandi Carlile shared a cover of “Summer’s End,” from John’s last album “The Tree of Forgiveness,” writing, “I’m gonna miss singin’ this one with you John so tonight I’ll sing it to you,” adding, “I know you didn’t make it home in the way we all wanted but you made it home. Put in a good word for us. All my love to Fiona,” signing it, “xoyoursingingpartner.” Check it out to the right. 
  • Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maines performed a cover of “Angel From Montgomery” backed by her two sons. She shares, “My kids got introduced to John Prine tonight and helped me do a tribute. I❤️John Prine. R.I.P.” Check it out to the right. 
  • Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy also paid tribute to John in song, covering John’s “Please Don’t Bury Me,” noting, “Probably a little inappropriate but celebratory as well, I hope.” Check it out to the right.
  • Eric Church also pays tribute to John in song, covering "Long Monday." “We lost one of my all time favorites yesterday,” he shares in the clip, “a man that taught me how to write songs, so I want to do this for John.”
