Country fans weren’t able to experience CMA Fest this year since it was canceled due to the coronavirus, but ABC brought the Fest home last night, with a look back at CMA Fests from the past.
The three-hour “CMA Best of Fest” featured 27 performances from the CMA Archives hosted by Luke Bryan, who also added a brand new performance, from an empty stadium - a cover of John Mellencamp’s “Small Town,” with guest Darius Rucker.
As for last night’s highlight reel, it included Miranda Lambert performing “Kerosene” from 2007, the oldest clip of the night, as well as Garth Brooks’ 14-minute medley of seven hits from 2017, Lady A’s “Love Don’t Live Here” from 2008, and Kenny Chesney’s “Summertime” also from 2009.
Other performances included: Darius’ “Wagon Wheel” from 2014, Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins’ “Hillbilly Bone” from 2010, Carrie Underwood's "Last Name" from 2010, Eric Church’s “That’s Damn Rock & Roll” with Lizzy Hale, from 2014, Little Big Town’s “Pontoon” and Luke Bryan’s "Country Girl (Shake It for Me)” from 2012. There was also Zac Brown Band’s “Chicken Fried” from 2009, Rascal Flatts medley with Little Big Town in 2011, Tim McGraw’s “Something Like That,” from 2010, Jason Aldean’s “She’s Country” from 2015 and Brad Paisley’s “American Saturday Night” from 2010.
- And last year’s CMA Fest was also represented with Carrie Underwood teaming with John Jett for “I Hate Myself For Loving You” and “I Love Rock ‘N Roll,” Lil Nas X, Billy Ray Cyrus and Keith Urban’s performance of “Old Town Road,” Maren Morris’ “Girl” and Brooks & Dunn and Brothers Osborne performing “Hard Working Man.”
- Among the other newer performances were Dierks Bentley’s collaboration with Dwight Yoakam on “Fast As You," Dan & Shay’s “Tequila,” Luke Combs’ “When It Rains It Pours,” Thomas Rhett’s “Life Changes” and Kane Bown and Lauren Alaina’s “What Ifs” from 2018 and Sam Hunt singing “Body Like A Back Road” and Kelsea Ballerini’s “Yeah Boy” from 2017 as well as Keith Urban's "Wasted Time" from 2017, which closed the night out.
