It was a big night for The Highwomen, who collected three reasons to celebrate in an otherwise upside-down year in music.
The group, featuring Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, Amanda Shires, and Natalie Hemby — dominated the 2020 Americana Honors & Awards, winning Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Duo/Group of the Year.
Late songwriting hero John Prine earned Artist of the Year, his fourth time winning the top prize in the show's 19-year history. He died in April of COVID-19 compilations at age 73.
The Nashville-based nonprofit Americana Music Association announced 2020 award recipients yesterday via social media; The Americana Honors & Awards typically take place each September at the Ryman Auditorium, but organizers canceled the in-person ceremony and accompanying AmericanaFest this year due to COVID-19 concerns.
Here are the 2020 Americana Honors & Awards winners:
Artist of the Year: John Prine
Album of the Year: “The Highwomen"
Song of the Year: “Crowded Table" The Highwomen
Duo/Group of the Year: The Highwomen
