CMT got into the holiday spirit on Wednesday night with two Christmas specials -- "CMT Crossroads Christmas: Brett Young & Friends" at 8 PM ET and "A Tennessee Kind of Christmas" at 9 PM ET. As we previously told you, set lists we expected were songs that got all of us singing along.
Young sang holiday hits alongside Boyz II Men, Chris Tomlin, Colbie Caillat, Dann Huff, Darius Rucker, Gavin DeGraw, and Maddie & Tae. The holiday tunes included "Let It Snow," "White Christmas," "The Chipmunk Song," "This Christmas," and more. Young sang on every song, which makes sense, as it was his special!
This was followed immediately by "A Tennessee Kind of Christmas" which gave us all the traditional country music feel. Billy Ray Cyrus, Wynonna Judd, Tracy Lawrence, and Clay Walker led an even more stacked lists of artists like Amy Grant, Steve Wariner, Pam Tillis, and Sara Evans and Olivia Evans.
The special was a family affair, not only filled with jolly Christmas music but with the star's holiday memories, too.
- Walker sang "Cowboy Christmas" from a barnyard and shared his family's tradition of how the entire family would go to chop down a Christmas tree.
- Wynonna's vocals nailed "Mary Did You Know?" from Nashville's Cheekwood Mansion and Museum where she shard that her “memories of growing up in rural Kentucky were my mom and my sister and me in our pajamas. We had nothing, but we had everything."
- Billy Ray gave his rendition of "Blue Christmas" and shared his memories of how he would make a homemade skating rink by throwing water on the driveway to make it freeze and he still does that to this day.
- Tillis preformed from Rudy's Jazz Room and sang "Merry Christmas Baby" to us all. She then shared memories of Christmases she spent with her dad, Mel Tillis.
- Grant sang "Tennessee Christmas" and told us all that the reason she's was called "the queen of Christmas was because I recorded so much Christmas music."
- Lawrence brought us all to Santa's Pub for the Christmas song "Cold Beer" and shared his traditions of frying two or three turkeys each Christmas.
- Wariner fittingly sang "On Christmas Morning" which was perfect as Christmas Day is his birthday!
- Sara and her daughter Olivia gave us an emotion rendition of "O Holy Night." She confessed that she cries almost every time she sings the song.
