Shania Twain went through a lot of pain in 2011, dealing with vocal cord surgery, as well as a diagnosis of Lyme Disease, and she admits in a new interview with “Today” that back then she thought her career might be over.
"It was devastating,'' she shares. "I was very, very sad about it, to the point where ... I felt I had no other choice but to just accept it." After the throat surgeries she lost her voice, and she notes, “I was mourning,'' she admits. "I was mourning the expression of my voice."
And while she did eventually get back to performing, she admits things were never quite the same, but that may not be a bad thing. “The surgery's quite ... invasive,'' she explains. "It's given me more room to play, to be honest. I have gravel.” She adds, "I think it's kind of sexy. I mean, it's there. I'm never gonna have my old voice again. I'm OK with that. I've found a new voice. And I like it."
