It’s no secret that there’s a lack of female artists being played on country radio, and that’s particularly true when it comes to all-female groups. Well, one all-girl group may be making a little headway.
Runaway June’s latest single “Buy My Own Drinks” is at 20 on the “Billboard” Country Airplay chart, the first all-female group of three or more to land in the Top 20 since 2005.
Believe it or not, the last female group to land in the Country Airplay Top 20 was SheDaisy, who made it to number seven in August 2005 with “Don’t Worry ‘Bout A Thing.”
- And this isn’t the only sign that things may be changing, albeit slowly. This week both Kelsea Ballerini and Maren Morris have songs in the Country Airplay Top Ten (“Miss Me More” and “Girl,” respectively), while Trisha Yearwood’s “Every Girl In This Town” debuts at 21, and Sheryl Crow, Maren Morris and Stevie Nicks’ new track “Prove You Wrong,” debuts at 33.
