Kelsea Ballerini took the title of her song "Half of My Hometown" literally by going back to her hometown to shoot the music video. The scenes were shot in streets close to her childhood home, at high school, and other places of her youth.
The music video explores the debate as to what it means to stay or leave a small town. It goes back and forth between showing an adult Ballerini who is singing about her hometown and watching the one who stayed in her hometown.
The ending of the music video, through home movies and clips of Ballerini's more recent accomplishments, shows what actually happened, that she did leave.
Fellow Knoxvillian Kenny Chesney also sings on the song.
