Jelly Roll is known for several things: his intense, soul-searching songs, his larger-than-life presence, and his numerous tattoos. Now, thanks to his Hulu documentary "Jelly Roll: Save Me" and his visit Friday with "Good Morning America," more people are getting to know his intense need to give back to the community and lend the helping hand that he wishes he had growing up.

JR sat with "GMA3" Friday to talk about his rough early life, prison stint and redemption thanks to his music and his daughter. He then played his song "She" live for the GMA audience.

In an associated Instagram post on both the GMA Instagram account and his own, Jelly explained some of his many tattoos. His favorite? The simple cross below his eye.
