It’s been three years since Granger Smith and wife Amber lost their son River in a tragic drowning accident, but they are still receiving hurtful messages from online trolls regarding his death.

Amber recently took to her Instagram story to share some of those awful messages she receives, with one basically blaming them for River’s passing and suggested they simply moved on by having another son. (They welcomed son Maverick 11 months ago.)

“Why was he not being properly protected and supervised?” one critic wrote. “Not my business, not trying to be cruel, but to have a beautiful baby drown and then just have another kid, like … oops sorry about that one, we’ll just replace him.” The troll then asked, “How do you guys deal with knowing his death was 100 percent preventable? And then just move on?”

Amber commented sarcastically in the post, “Not her business and she’s not judging or trying to be cruel though,” adding, “The Lord is my strength when we still, three years later, receive these messages.”

  • Another awful comment asked, “Why would you be such irresponsible parents?!?," noting, "Teach babies to swim, fence the pool, PROTECT your children! This is your fault, you KILLED your win [sic] kid. Truly disgusting.”
  • But somehow Amber has found away to forgive such awful people. “I can’t fault these people. We live in a fallen world,” she said. “It’s taken me 3 years to not let these comments hurt me, but I forgive them. I am rooted in Jesus.”
