Garth Brooks headlined his second dive bar tour late last week, bringing his show to Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, California. About 600 fans packed into the show, and were treated to a 70-minute set, with Garth backed by a six-piece band.
“I’m standing here thinking about all the things that Bakersfield has done for us,” he he told the crowd. “There was the phone call from Buck Owens that changed my life,” talking about when Buck urged him to negotiate ownership of his master recordings. He added, “I came to his funeral here to pay my respects. I proposed to the love of my life right here.” (Garth proposed to Trisha Yearwood on stage at the Crystal Palace in 2005.)
As for the set, it featured many Garth hits, including “Friends in Low Places,” “Two of a Kind,” “Aint Goin’ Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up),” “Callin’ Baton Rouge,” “The River,” “Rodeo,” “The Thunder Rolls,” “The Dance” and “Unanswered Prayers.”
