Drake White was hospitalized after nearly collapsing on stage during a show in Roanoke, Virginia Friday night, and now the singer is opening up about a health battle he’s been dealing with for months.
The singer shares that back in January he was diagnosed with an arteriovenous malformation (AVM), an abnormal tangle of arteries and veins in the brain that disrupts normal blood flow. “It was basically stealing blood from my brain,” Drake tells “People.” “The neurologist told me that I should be thankful it was caught in time, because it could have caused a stroke.”
To combat the issue Drake has had several embolization procedures to cut off blood flow to the affected vessels, and even though one took place four days before his show, there’s still no word on whether it, or his condition, played a role in his near-collapse. He does need to have more, but says doctors “knocked out 75% of the mass.”
- Regardless, Drake says he always planned to open up about his condition. In fact, his interview with “People” took place before his most recent incident. “I’m not telling this story for me,” Drake shares. “Someone needs to hear it and God wants me to share it. It will help people believe in miracles, and I will feel that energy. The world needs that kind of energy right now.”
