CMT To Honor Toby Keith With Tribute Special Tonight: CMT has been honoring Toby Keith since the "CMT Music Awards" last weekend; now the network has announced a new tribute special for the late country legend. According to CMT's social media post, "Songwriting meant the world to Toby Keith. We’re reminiscing on this Hall of Famer's greatest CMT Awards moments - tomorrow, April 11 at 10/9c on CMT." A small clip from the special, where Toby talks about the importance of songwriting.
Trisha Yearwood And Hailey Whitters Duet At The Opry: Trisha Yearwood is considered one of the all-time great female vocalists in country music. Hailey Whitters is thought to be one of the most promising new talents in the genre. So when the two get together on stage, good things are bound to happen. Wednesday night at the Ryman Auditorium, the two teamed up for Hailey's song "How Far Can It Go," a song originally included on Whitter’s "Living the Dream" deluxe album.
Chris Young Doesn't Like Having Beer Thrown At Him: Seriously, who does? Chris Young was performing this week at Chilifest in Snook, Texas when a "fan" tossed a beer at him. Young was having none of it. Stopping the show, he singled the idiot out and challenged him straight up. "If you can’t fight me in the parking lot and I’m 6’4″ and 255, stop throwing s**t. I’ll hop off the damn stage right now and piss everybody off in here." The crowd quickly chose sides, pointing out the culprit while chanting "a**hole." Young piled on, taunting him as security hauled him away. "It was him, but that little s**t looked me right in the face and said it wasn’t." To add to the guy's problems, Chris asked security to get the guy's name, so he could be perma-banned from future Chris Young shows.
Maren Morris And Stephen Colbert Duet On National Anthem: Maren Morris visited with Stephen Colbert on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" this week when the subject turned to the singing of the National Anthem. When the singer explained the thought process to approaching the song ("start low, that's the rule...because if you start too high, you forget you gotta go real high at the end"), the host asked if he could accompany her. An impromptu duet of "The Star Spangled Banner" ensued, with Colbert doing a fairly effective job singing low harmony. After one extended bass note from Colbert, Morris started laughing. "Where did that come from?" Colbert grinned, telling Morris, "I want to sing that with you at an amateur wrestling competition… It's always good to have a fallback, this job could go away tomorrow."
Bunnie XO Says She Almost Fainted Meeting Billy Bob Thornton At CMT Music Awards: The "CMT Music Awards" were huge for Jelly Roll, as he cleaned up, winning three awards. It was a big night for his wife Bunnie XO as well, as she got to meet actor Billy Bob Thornton, who was one of the presenters. In a video posted by Bunnie to her TikTok, the camera follows her as she walks up to the actor and gave him a big hug. "Hi, I’m Jelly’s wife," she said in the video, to which Thornton responded, "I know. How are you, honey?" "I almost fainted meeting Billy Bob Thornton because he knew who I was," Bunnie wrote in the video. "OK this made me starstruck," she added in the caption section. See the video of the meeting here.
Terri Clark To Headline Ryman Auditorium For First Time Ever: We told you a few days ago that Jo Dee Messina was readying her first ever show at the Grand Ole Opry. At the time it seemed surprising, but we've since learned that she's not the only big star that somehow has a gaping hole in their country music career where the Ryman Auditorium should be. Terri Clark - another 90's country icon - has never headlined at "The Mother Church." She's played there - but never headlined, even at the peak of her country music career. That's finally about to change. Thursday, August 29th, Terri checks that box off her career "to do" list. Tickets for her first-ever headlining appearance at the Ryman go on sale tomorrow at 10 am CT. Of the show, Clark says, "We’ll have a few surprises and will be pulling out all the stops to ensure this is a night to remember for everyone – no matter if you’re on the stage or sitting in the pews under the glow of the stained glass."
