CMT’s Artist Of The Year Special Airs Tonight

CMT’s Artist of the Year special airs tonight, and it will be a celebration of women. This year’s entire honoree class is made up of female artists, including Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Kelsea Ballerini, Maren Morris, Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman and Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott. What's more, all of them will perform during the special.
Planned performances include:
- Carrie will be joined by her future “Cry Pretty” tourmates Maddie & Tae and Runaway June
- Miranda will take the stage with her group Pistol Annies to perform a track from their upcoming album “Interstate Gospel”
- Kelsea will team with Alison Krauss for a song
- Karen and Kimberly will be joined by Gladys Knight
- Hillary will perform with Tori Kelly and gospel artist Kirk Franklin
- And Maren will team with Brandi Carlile for a salute to Aretha Franklin
In addition, Loretta Lynn will be honored with the Artist of a Lifetime Award. Sissy Spacek, who won an Oscar playing Loretta in the 1980 film “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” will present Loretta with the honor, while Sheryl Crow, Dierks Bentley and Martina McBride have just been added to the event for a special musical tribute to Loretta.
- Artists joining Sissy as presenters this year include Keith Urban, Smokey Robinson, Elle King, Little Big Town’s Jimi Westbrook andPhillip Sweet, Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood, Trisha Yearwood and Crow.
The 2018 CMT Artists of the Year will premiere live from Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center 8 pm.
