The 2020 CMT Awards went down last night, and while the show was supposed to happen in June, it was definitely worth the wait.

The telecast, hosted by Kane Brown, Ashley McBryde and Sarah Hyland, took place all around Nashville, at locations throughout Music City and middle Tennessee. And while there wasn’t a live audience there, there was a viewing party that featured socially distanced fans in masks, as well as some piped in cheers.

The big winner of the night was definitely Carrie Underwood, who, for yet another year, took home trophies for Video of The Year and Female Video of the Year, this time for her clip “Drinking Alone.” Her two wins brings her grand total of CMT Awards to 22, giving her the most wins of any artist in CMT Music Awards history. Click here for a complete recap of last night's show.

Carrie was the only multiple winner of the night. The night's other winners included Luke Bryan, Male Video of the Year for “One Margarita,” Gabby Barrett, who nabbed Breakthrough Video of the Year for “I Hope,” Dan + Shay, Duo Video of the Year for “I Should Probably Go Too Bed,” Old Dominion, Group Video of the Year for "One Man Band,” Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, Collaborative Video of the Year for “Nobody But You,” and Chris Young, CMT Performance Video of the year for his "CMT Artists of the Year" performance of “Drowning.” Click here for a winners list.

  • CMT also honored Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles with the inaugural Equal Play Award for her outspokenness and advocacy for women in country music. They showed a recorded piece of Jennifer fighting to spotlight female artists’ underrepresentation, along with testimonials and congratulations from stars like Sheryl Crow, Kelsea Ballerini, Gabby Barrett, Maren Morris, Mickey Guyton, Cam, Tanya Tucker and more.
  • Jennifer accepted her award from home, and thanked her fellow female artists noting, “I am so proud to be a part of this legacy of women in country music with you and I am so proud of the stories that we tell.” She continued, “we have more to do as soon as we can and I can’t wait to do it all alongside you holding your hands.”

Of course the real reason folks tune in is for the performances, and there were certainly plenty of them. Highlights included:

  • The show kicked off with an outdoor performance by Luke Combs of “1, 2 Many,” where he joined by Brooks & Dunn, and he also shot gunned a beer.
  • Sam Hunt, at the Estate at Cherokee Dock, played “Hard to Forget.”
  • Maren Morris, who was introduced by Brandi Carlile wearing a Black Lives Matter T-shirt, performed an acoustic version of “To Hell and Back.”

  • Gabby Barrett performed her number one single “I Hope,” with a performance that featured a lot of pyro.
  • Dan + Shay performed “I Should Probably Go To Bed,” taking the title literally, with Shay kicking things off from an actual bed.
  • Kane Brown performed the TV debut of his new song “Worship You.”
  • Jimmie Allen and Noah Cyrus, in an outfit that appeared to barely cover her naughty bits, performed their collaboration “This Is Us.”
  • Celebrating the 25th anniversary of “The Woman In Me,” Shania Twain performed “Whose Bed Has Your Boots Been Under” from Switzerland, with the performance featuring all sorts of by odd wax figures.
  • Luke Bryan performed “What She Wants Tonight” in the middle of a field of grass.
  • Kelsea Ballerini and Halsey hit a bar for a sexy performance of their collaboration “The Other Girl.”
  • Little Big Town wrapped the night with their latest single “Wine, Beer, Whiskey.”
  • In addition, six breakout artists performed on the Ram Trucks Side Stage, including: Ingrid Andress, who performed “Lady Like,” Travis Denning, who performed “After A Few,” Caylee Hammack, who sang “Just Friends,” Mickey Guyton, who performed “Heaven Down Here,” Riley Green, who performed “If It Wasn’t For Trucks,” and Hardy, who performed “One More Beer.”
