Carrie Underwood sat down with “Today” for her first TV interview since her fall six months ago that left her with a fractured wrist and an injury to her face that required stiches.

Carrie says the fall was a “freak accident," revealing that she was by herself when it happened. "I just tripped taking my dogs out to do their business. So it could have happened to anybody,” she explains. “I say if I'd fallen anywhere else it wouldn't have been a problem, but there was just one little step that I went to catch myself on, and I missed."

Carrie says she had a lot of concerns about the injury to her face, noting, “In the beginning, I feel like I didn't know how things were gonna end up," adding. "It just wasn't pretty."

Of course to the naked eye, Carrie doesn’t look all that different, and when Hoda Kotb points that out Carrie jokes, "I have a dedicated team of professionals who can spackle and paint and paste," adding. "I'm feeling, every day, a little more back to normal."

  • Carrie made her first big return to the public eye with her performance of “Cry Pretty” at the ACM Awards, and it certainly was an emotional moment. "When you're singing something that is straight from your heart, it's easy to just be in the moment and be connected to it," she says. "And I never realized how much it translates until after the ACM Awards. It was like, 'Wow, you know, there was something different about that performance.'"
  • Meanwhile, as for feeling pretty, Carrie tells People that her son Isaiah usually helps her do that. “I feel the prettiest when my kid says something that’s just super sweet,” she says, noting that morning he didn’t want her team to put any makeup on her. “He said, ‘I like you just how you are.’ He didn’t want me to put makeup on,” adding, “That made me feel pretty. I know I wasn’t [pretty] because I had just woken up and hadn’t brushed my teeth yet, but he made me feel pretty.” Check out her interview to above.
