Brad Paisley and wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley celebrated the one-year anniversary of their free grocery, The Store, over the weekend.
The Store opened in the Edgehill neighborhood of Music City, offering free goods to those in need, and became incredibly essential over the past year, opening just a week after the city was hit with devastating tornados, and a few days before COVID shutdowns began.
“When we started dreaming about creating The Store years ago,” the Paisleys share, “we never imagined we would open our doors just days from catastrophic events–the tornadoes and then the pandemic–that would greatly impact the need for assistance in our community for months and months to come.”
Kimberly adds on Instgram, “This was a challenging and fortuitous time to open a free grocery, as the number of people facing food insecurity jumped in Nashville (as it did in many parts of the country),’ noting, “ We couldn’t have done it without our wonderful board, hardworking staff, volunteers, corporate sponsors, generous donors and our partner @belmontu. THANK YOU everyone.”
After The Store opened, they started changing up their practices to help those in need while allowing folks to stay safe. They began delivering groceries to seniors, eventually growing to 450 deliveries a week, and offered curbside pickup.
