Next week's CMT Honors special will be an 'all-female edition,' and this year’s honorees are pretty happy to see someone shining a light on the Women of Country.

“It’s about dadgum time that we recognize women and not just country music but all music,” says Loretta Lynn, who’ll receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. “A big yee haw to CMT for doing so.”

While there’s been a lot of talk about the lack of women in country music, honoree Kelsea Ballerini is happy that “finally we’re seeing people actually do stuff about it,” noting, “CMT choosing to use their platform, which is a massive platform in country music, to honor only women is not just conversation, but actual change. That’s a massive step forward.” CMT Honors airs Wednesday at 8pm ET.

  • Meanwhile, Miranda Lambert notes that it’s up to women “to support each other,” adding, "It’s not an industry supporting us. It’s us believing in each other and respecting each other’s art and I think that it also pushes us to be better when someone is really great." She offers, "You need a little competition. As long as the women keep delivering, I think it’s just building it up, building it up.”
