The BMI Country Awards were held in Nashville earlier this week, with Dwight Yoakam honored with the BMI President’s Award for his profound influence on music.
Several artists paid tribute to Dwight during the event, including Jon Pardi, who performed “Guitars, Cadillacs,” and Margo Price and Bob Weir, who covered “Fast As You.” The Highwomen were also on hand to honor Dwight, with a cover of “A Thousand Miles From Nowhere."
“Every placard that I’ve received from BMI over the years is an award that I cherish, right alongside any platinum album that I’ve got,” Dwight shared in his acceptance speech. “The awards are up in my office to remind me of how lucky I’ve been, how fortunate I’ve been to be able to make a living doing something I would’ve done for free.”
- As for the other BMA Country Award winners, Dan + Shay won Song of the Year for “Tequila,” and Nicolle Galyon, who co-wrote "Tequilla," tied with with Ross Copperman, for BMI Country Songwriters of the Year. In addition, this year’s Top 50 Songs included Luke Combs’ “Beautiful Crazy,” Carrie Underwood’s “Cry Pretty,” Dierks Bentley’s “Burning Man,” Eric Church’s “Desperate Man” and more.
